Commercials
I was sitting around, doing homework, and looking at the television from time to time. I had seen a few commercials and I then started to wonder what some of the creators of these commercials were thinking. I then started to think about what the top commercials are and how they would compare to one another. I started typing around and found a place where viewers can rate commercials. They have the top fifty listed. Instantly I noticed that AT&T had three of the ads, Geico had two, Budweiser had two, Gatorade, Southwest Airlines, and Reebok all had one each. Reebok’s shoe commercial with Terry Tate in the office was a number one overall. The address in which I had found this list was www.advertisementave.com. I personally find it hard to believe that that commercial was number one. I have seen many commercials this evening and already I have seen a few commercials that looked more entertaining to me. It is commercials like the googley eyed money by Geico, or FreeCreditReport.com with their annoying song about telling your dad and your mom, that make me change the channel just so I don’t have to listen to it, I catch myself shutting off the television because I fumble around trying to change the channel that shutting it off just seems to be easier. I think that if some of these companies had a better public relations management that it would appeal to the viewers rather than to run them off by changing the channel or shutting off the television in all. I do remember when I was younger I would change the channel to find commercials that I wanted to watch. I would always look for the Snuggles laundry detergent, so I could see the soft, comforting Cuddles the teddy bear. Those are the commercials that I hope to see again soon.

Randy I do agree with you that many of the commercials now are just plain stupid. I too will either just tune them out or change the channel to a show I don't even want to watch just so I dont have to sit through a brutal commercial. I also find it crazy the commercials that are always voted the number one by fans or whatever. The ones that always seem to win are never a favorite of mine, and the ones that tend to catch my attention are never even near the top. I sometimes wonder who votes on these.
ReplyDeleteI am not someone that watches a lot of TV but I dont find most of the commericals to be very pointless. There are some that are good and that is do enjoy. Most of the time when I do watch TV I usually find something else to do while the commericals are on. I dont even know whey they rate commericals anyway. It is not going to change the commerical in anyway after it is rated lower than maybe the creater wanted. This is silly stuff but it really makes one think. Great Post Randy!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Tiffany, why would they even rate them anyways? I mean, maybe then the commerical people will be like "oh hey, they hated that one.. we can't do it like that any more" and change their game plan.. But yeah the dumb ones are always rated the highest (paid voters eh?)
ReplyDeleteHowever, some things they come up with are way creative - and have great jingles. Just got to know how to draw in the audience, and some companies have and some don't (obviously). Good post Randy
I agree with you there are so many commercials that do not make any sense. They are so annoying that you turn the channel. Instead of having the top best commercials ranked I think it would be smarter for companies to get feed back on the commercials they are airing. Then they could know if they are liked or if people are just turning the channel.
